In Syria, a monthly car rental usually costs less than paying the daily rate from about the 23rd day of a hire. Under three weeks, pay by the day. From roughly three and a half weeks up to a few months, book a month at a time. If a company needs the car for a year or more, a corporate lease with one fixed invoice is the cheaper and simpler route.
People ask us this at the counter more than anything else, usually in the form "is it worth taking it for the month?" The honest answer is that it depends on a single number — how many days you will actually need the car — and on which car. Here is the arithmetic, done out loud, with the prices as they stand in October 2026.
Three ways to pay for the same car
The same Kia or Hyundai can be on three different footings.
By the day. You book dates, you pay a daily rate, and the car comes back when your dates end. This is how most visitors hire.
By the month. Thirty days at a fixed price, with servicing, roadside assistance and the insurance that comes with every hire already inside it. A month is booked exactly as a day is — no negotiated contract, no paperwork beyond the licence and the signature. The rates are on the monthly car rental page.
By the year. A corporate lease of twelve, twenty-four or thirty-six months, for companies rather than individuals. The car is registered, insured and serviced by us, a replacement arrives if it is off the road, and the whole fleet is on one invoice that does not change for the length of the term.
The tipping point, class by class
Divide the monthly price by the daily rate and you get the number of days after which the month is the cheaper way to pay.
| Class (example model) | Daily rate | Monthly rate | Month wins from about |
|---|---|---|---|
| Economy (Nissan Sylphy 2025) | 55 USD | 1,240 USD | day 23 |
| Sedan (Hyundai Elantra 2025) | 57 USD | 1,300 USD | day 23 |
| Sedan (Kia K3 2026) | 65 USD | 1,470 USD | day 23 |
| Standard SUV (Kia Sportage 2026) | 100 USD | 2,255 USD | day 23 |
| 7-Seat SUV (Kia Sorento 2026) | 125 USD | 2,815 USD | day 23 |

The pattern is consistent: across most of the fleet, the month overtakes the day at around 22 to 23 days. In plain terms, if your hire is going to run past three weeks, price it as a month before you book it as days.
The compact SUVs (Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta) and the Chevrolet Tahoe are priced differently: their daily rate drops from the eleventh day of a hire. For those three, enter your dates on the booking page and it will show you the lowest total for the length of stay you need.
What the monthly price includes, and what it does not
Included: the car for thirty days, scheduled servicing, roadside assistance, and the insurance cover that comes with every hire. The exact terms of that cover are written on the agreement you sign at handover, and we will tell you what applies before you book if you ask.
Not included: fuel, which is full to full exactly as on a short hire, and distance beyond the daily allowance, which is charged at 0.10 USD a kilometre. The allowance is 150 km a day.
Never charged: a deposit. We take none on any hire, monthly or daily — no cash, no card hold, no promissory note. We have written separately about why we stopped taking deposits.
The distance allowance is worth a minute's thought on a long hire. Someone living in Damascus and driving across the city to work will rarely come near it. Someone making repeated runs to Aleppo — around 355 km each way, as described in our account of the M5 — will, and should count those trips before choosing.
When a month is the wrong answer
A month is not automatically the better deal. It is the wrong choice when:
- Your dates are fixed and short. Twelve days is twelve days. Paying for thirty to use twelve is a donation.
- You need different cars at different points. A family visit that needs a seven-seater for the first week and a small sedan afterwards is better as two daily hires.
- The trip ends in another city. A one-way hire — collect in Damascus, leave the car in Aleppo or on the coast — is arranged at booking, and the flat delivery fee applies.
When it stops being rental: the corporate lease
There is a point where a company should stop renting month after month and sign a lease instead. The signs are usually the same: the same people need the same cars for the foreseeable future, someone in the office is renewing bookings every thirty days, and finance would rather see one predictable line than a series of rentals.
A corporate lease runs for 12, 24 or 36 months. Servicing, tyres, wear items, comprehensive insurance and annual registration are on the contract, a replacement car comes if one is off the road, and every vehicle sits on one itemised monthly invoice. Indicative single-car rates start at 1,100 USD a month for a sedan such as the Kia K3, and a fleet is quoted as a fleet — the more cars and the longer the term, the lower the figure. A written quotation comes back within two working days of asking for one.
The difference from a monthly rental is not only the price. It is that the car stops being something the office has to remember.
Three examples, worked through
These are illustrations of the arithmetic, not customer stories.
A visit home of 18 days in an economy car. Eighteen days at 55 USD is 990 USD. The month is 1,240 USD. Pay by the day.
A consultant on a 26-day assignment in a Kia Sportage. Twenty-six days at 100 USD is 2,600 USD. The month is 2,255 USD — about 345 USD less, for four spare days the car will simply sit through. Book the month.
A small company with three staff who drive every working day, indefinitely. Three sedans renewed monthly is three bookings to remember every thirty days. A 12-month lease puts them on one invoice at a fixed figure, with registration and replacement cars handled. Ask for a lease quotation.
A short list before you book
- Count the days you will genuinely need the car, not the days you will be in the country.
- Past about 22 days, compare the monthly rate before you book as days.
- Estimate distance if your plans include long intercity runs.
- If a company is paying and the need is open-ended, ask for a corporate lease quotation instead.
- Booking is free to cancel and no card is taken, so holding the right car early costs nothing.
